A Day in Mariposa’s Office: False Alarms, (Almost) Finishing, & Survey Results

Good morning, dino-mites!

You may remember that I was a little frazzled last month by that mysterious boyfriend…and now I’m even more frazzled because IT TURNS OUT MARIPOSA WAS JUST SENDING STUFF TO HERSELF TO MAKE ME MAD.

But that’s alright cause I ate all her chocolate and flowers, and everything she did and did not mail to herself. That’ll teach her not to mess with me!

Survey Results

Besides writing this month, I had the pleasure of looking over the survey results. A bunch of it was helpful in making up my mind and I thank you all heartily. Particularly this person:

When you place “Mariposa/Aberdeen” in front of anything else and dangle it in front of me, how can I say no? It just sounds like it’s going to be brilliant.

This is my new favorite person.

And then there’s this person:

I said earlier that Aberdeen wouldn’t let Mariposa post more often, but to clarify I would love to see posts by Mariposa. I love the site the way it is cause it’s epic and perfectly awesome, but I mean. Mariposa is awesome too.

Not just Aberdeen.

(Sorry Aberdeen)

(Don’t eat my books for saying that)

(You’re still epic)

I am offended. But I forgive you.

Also, I was elated how many of you read my blog every week! The only thing I’m wondering is what you’re reading when I’ve only been posting twice a month lately…do I have a secret poster I don’t know about?!

Anyway though, I just wanted to let you know y’all are the greatest. I wouldn’t be where I am now if it weren’t for you. (free dinosaur hugs for everyone!)

Writing Results

Mariposa is still plugging away at her Nutcracker retelling. If she wasn’t so busy mailing stuff to herself she’d probably be done by now. As of the moment, I’m writing this, she’s 27,000 words through it. Which is about 2/3 of the estimated length (middle-grade books tend to rang from 30,000 to 50,000). She’s hoping to finish it by March 20th.*

Life Results

Can I say life has been crazy and boring, or is that paradoxical? Because that’s exactly what life has been like these winter months. Lots of words to write, closets to clean, research to search, baking to eat, people to sit on, books to gram**, art to draw, characters to whack, groceries to buy, plans to concoct, dishes to wash, thoughts to think, and lists to checkmark (or not).

So lots of things to do that no one wants to read about in a blog post. Unless you wanna read about how many dustballs Mariposa found cleaning the basement or the process of her staring at the screen for ten minutes before writing ten words.

In other less uninteresting news, she did try filming videos to post on her IG story, so that’s kinda exciting, and awkward. Have you ever watched an introvert try to feel a video? It’s so weird. Like they’re being an extrovert while introverting in room by themselves.

Also, I’m mad at Mariposa right now because she posted a picture of me on Instagram. No matter what you see, don’t believe it! I am NOT that fluffy. And I’m certainly not that small. I’m the size of a house.***

And that wraps up everything for the last month. How have you been, dino-mites?

*Let’s just hope she don’t start mailing herself stuff for St. Patrick’s Day because then she’ll never finish writing it.

**See what I did there.

***A small house, but still.

  1. Hi Aberdeen and Mariposa, I’m Lily and I’m pretty new to this blog. First off, (being directed to Aberdeen) whether that was really you in the picture or not, let’s just say you look very smart! Love the glasses. Where do you get them?

Second off all (to Mariposa) I’ve been going over a couple of your Storytelling According to Pixar posts and I really enjoy them. They’ve given me a lot to think about (since I want to write stories for kids too!)

Thanks for your hard work and good luck with your Nutcracker retelling (and have you tried eating the mailbox, Aberdeen? Maybe then the letters Mariposa sends to herself won’t reach the house!)

    1. Hi, Lily! 😀👋 This is Aberdeen. 🦖

Thank you! I’m glad you think I look smart because I am (though Mariposa doesn’t think so). I get all my glasses out of an old box Mariposa has in the basement. 🙂

    2. Thanks for stopping by, Lily! 😊

Aw, that’s amazing you write children’s books too! 😍 What are some of your favorite children’s books?

Thanks! (Also, Aberdeen’s glasses are really just some old American Girl doll glasses, but don’t tell him or he’ll never wear them 🤫).

      1. I really like middle-grade books, like Snow and Rose, Medallion, The Hero’s Guide to Saving Your Kingdom, and The Mysterious Benedict Society. What are some of yours?

(Don’t worry, your secret is safe with me 😉

        1. Ooh, I’ve been wanting to read Snow & Rose and The Mysterious Benedict Society! ☺️ Some of my favorites are The Bookwanderers, Robot Wars series, Peter Pan, and Wishtree. 🙂

  2. Haha I remember filling out the survey and thinking “do they post once a week..??”
I went ahead and checked yes, because I read whenever you publish, and I couldn’t remember at the moment your posting schedule. xD
Wow, 27k words is such an accomplishment! 😀
Not gonna lie. I would probably send chocolate to myself at Valentines Day. *nods*

    1. Well, I used to post every week a few months ago. But then life got busy and I decided to take a hiatus without really taking a hiatus. 😜🦖

*bows* It was all my hard sitting that got her that far along. 😉 I don’t think I’d send chocolate to myself—I’d send books to myself. 😋
